The weekend away from our kids and homeschooling has become more frequent in the past couple of years. We are fortunate in that our children are young and don’t really need any time or space away from us. But it can be stressful, especially when kids are just starting to explore their own identities, as well as their own worlds.
We had to do the same thing. I am not going to lie, I was a little worried when I first heard that my daughter was going to be spending the weekend away from us. The reality is that she is going to be spending a weekend of time with her friends and I cant even begin to explain to you how wonderful this is for her.
The weekend away is a great way to explore your own identity, your own world, and even your own mind. As a mom of two young children, I can tell you that it truly does feel like a vacation. No doubt, there will be some long days and some long nights, but we have been able to make our kids feel so at home, so relaxed, so comfortable that they seem to feel like they are on vacation all the time.
The weekend away is great for parents (and parents-to-be) because it gives you a chance to relax, to enjoy the sun, to recharge, to feel good about yourself, and most of all to just get your kids to feel good too. There’s nothing like the weekend away to make you feel like you aren’t alone in the world. It also teaches kids to be responsible, to be on the same page with their parents.
The weekend away is a great opportunity to teach your kids to be responsible, be on the same page with their parents, and to live together as a family with all the fun and excitement of a summer vacation. The kids get to experience the real world, so to speak, and when they come back from vacation, they are more likely to want to stay with you.
This is definitely a parent’s worst nightmare. I had a friend whose 10 year old son, after being in an orphanage for a while, had developed a strong desire for a home life similar to that of his mother and sister. I spent my weekends working with him, and he was a very happy kid when he came back.
Having gone on the overnight weekend-away, you are more likely to want to stay in the parent’s home, and that’s because it’s a much more relaxed environment. On the weekend-away you probably won’t be eating out or having kids at home. You will spend some time doing your own hobbies instead, like reading the news, writing, or drawing. So that’s when you’ll probably want to stay with your parent.
I think its great that you would want to spend time with your parent, and I also think that you will be very happy staying with them, but there are times when you just want to have a bit more freedom with things.
Of course, you’ll want to make sure that your parents are well taken care of, and I do think that having them stay with you is a great idea. But sometimes you just want to be able to spend some time with them without actually having to do all the chores and other stuff that usually accompany parents. And that is when a weekend away can provide a great opportunity.
What do you do with your parents? Well, I guess you could just stay home and watch some TV or read a book, but that doesn’t sound all that great either. Instead, you could take them to a day out at a park with their friends and you could just sit and talk and hang out for a while. You could take them to a movie theatre and perhaps some night out at a concert or a bar.
