Wiz Khalifa Opens Up On His MMA Progress After 5 Years Of Training

On April 20, 2020, Khalifa released a new EP, The Saga of Wiz Khalifa. The album included collaborations with Tyga, Logic, Mustard and Ty Dolla $ign. The tour, scheduled to last from September to November 2010, sold out every venue.

The art of training in MMA, or any form of combat sports, is something that can enlighten lives in a way that very few other things can. Rapper/songwriter Wiz Khalifa began training in MMA and was recently filmed hitting mitts with UFC bantamweight contender Cat Zingano. Whilst Wiz Khalifa has clearly been training well, we’re not sure he’s quite ready to jump into the octagon with a professional of Silva’s standard just yet.

However, Wiz was arrested in El Paso, Texas for marijuana possession the day before, and there were fears that the mixtape would be pushed back. After posting a “jail selfie” and hashtagging “FreeTrapWiz” on Twitter, he was released hours later, meaning the mixtape would go ahead with its intended release date. Khalifa appeared at the Soundset 2010 festival in May 2010 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, alongside Method Man & Redman, Del the Funky Homosapien and Hieroglyphics, Atmosphere, Murs, Cage, and others. He performed at the 2010 Rock the Bells festival, along with hip hop veterans Wu-Tang Clan, Snoop Dogg, Lauryn Hill, A Tribe Called Quest, Rakim, KRS-One, Jedi Mind Tricks and Slick Rick. Khalifa declined an invitation to tour with rapper Drake and launched his own Waken Baken Tour, a 50-city national tour with rapper Yelawolf. The rap star didn’t commit one way or the other when asked if he could see himself taking a professional fight, claiming that anything could happen.

Speaking to TMZ recently, Post Malone was commenting on Wiz’s recent training efforts and called for the dream fight he’d love to see Wiz involved in, alongside UFC legend Anderson Silva. “I’m always hungry now; like five times a day.” And those are full meals he’s talking about. Khalifa told Bleacher Report that he started with Jujitsu because that’s what his cousins do, but it wasn’t quite right for him. Recent Instagram photos of the rapper showed him with a more chiseled physique than in previous years. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.

The song, a tribute to his hometown of Pittsburgh, debuted at number 100 and eventually peaked at number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song became the lead single for his third album Rolling Papers, which was released in March 2011, and also had the Top 40 singles “Roll Up” and “No Sleep”. For years, martial arts training has been used by millions of people either to get ready for a fight or battle or to get in better shape and get healthier. Harry Kettle is a combat sports writer who has covered mixed martial arts and boxing for GMS since March 2022. Wiz Khalifa has explained why he decided to start training in mixed martial arts. Khalifa’s been building muscle onto that back—and the rest of his wiry, six-foot-four frame, too—for the past seven years, and in that time he’s come to crave the training process.

Could one of those celebrity crossovers be Khalifa himself? He takes his striking and grappling training seriously and knows that throwing fists with someone in a sanctioned environment is no joke — but it’s also quite a tempting idea. Aside from being the most exciting contact sport discipline, MMA has been vital in self defense training, or just improving one’s physical and mental health. And with the rise of the UFC in the past decades, getting into MMA training has been a step many have picked up, including athletes from other spots as well as celebrities. Compare that with how he looked before at a lean 140 pounds. Needless to say, the iconic ‘skinny boy’ image he always promoted in his songs has been transformed. Is one of the world’s top recording artists, is an avid fighting enthusiast. So much so that he’s placed his financial backing into the Professional Fight League as part of its ownership group.

“Wiz will play an active role in shaping and amplifying the voice of the PFL brand and how it resonates with fans around the world.” As an advisor, Khalifa — real name Cameron Thomaz — will collaborate with the company on how pop culture can be incorporated wiz khalifa martial arts into the upcoming season, which begins Friday on ESPN with PFL 1.
