Beer Events for July 2015

But this beer is incredible, like a liquid scoop of peanut butter ice cream smothered in dark chocolate hot fudge. For a few suburban breweries including BBGB Brewery and Hop Farm, Ten Ninety and 18th Street as well as from Noon Whistle , Penrose and Temperance . A whopping 27 breweries in attendance to around 110. Coney Island Brewing, backed by Sam Adams maker Boston Beer , already has come up with a replicant brand. And beer observers say the popularity of a root beer beer may lead to more alcoholic-type soda drinks. “Our distributors are saying this could be the beer of the summer – the beer of the year,” said Rich Pascucci, vice president of business development at Pabst.

It’s one of the few times this week people are actually taking time to talk about the beer, not just drink it, and it should be an interesting evening. Means “week.” Most other celebrations this decade have run up to 11 days long, and for the past three years, the whole thing has closed out with a big shebang of a neighborhood beer fest.

The barleywine is reminiscent of a more American interpretation of the English style, like a tamer Firestone Walker Sucaba. But the chocolate is unmistakable, and it adds a bittersweet richness onto this beer’s medium body. Look out for this when it comes to bottles, as it could become even more interesting and smooth as it ages. The brewery with roots the farthest outside of Illinois is Crabbie’s.
